Paragon Label, the fast-growing, Petaluma-based label printing enterprise, and legendary sticker manufacturer Mrs. Grossman’s, have won two major awards for their sustainable practices. The family-owned companies, which work side by side and were certified green in 2009, have been consistently winning accolades for their pioneering environmental practices.

On May 1, Paragon Label was named a winner of the 11th Annual FTA Environmental Excellence Award. The competition was sponsored by the Flexographic Technical Association, the largest Flexo printing trade association in the country. With competition the heaviest in the history of the awards, Paragon Label rose to the forefront.

FTA award judge Jay Downey of InterFlex Group said, “Paragon Label’s entry was an excellent demonstration of involving the workforce to implement change through a team approach in recycling…to take the stress off the environment.”

The second award, the CoolCalifornia Small Business - Climate Leader Award, was presented on May 3, by the State of California Air Resources Board. The award celebrates small companies that have demonstrated exceptional leadership to reduce their energy bills and greenhouse gas emissions and have made notable, voluntary achievements towards reducing their climate impact.

“We are honored to have received these two awards from such prestigious organizations,” says company president Jason Grossman. “We’re a small company (seventy-five employees) with big ideas about how to protect and keep our environment healthy.”

In addition to winning these two recent awards, Paragon Label has also won:

· 2010 North Bay Award for Sustainable Manufacturing Practices – State of California Assembly, Assemblyman Jared Huffman
· 2010 Label Industry Global Award for Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility
· Best Environmental Practices Award – 2009 – Sonoma County Business Environmental Alliance
· Pacific Gas & Electric Innovative Leadership Award for Energy Conservation 2005 – 2009

PG&E ClimateSmart program was so impressed with the company’s environmental commitment that they filmed a broadcast-quality two minute video. Here’s the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvkXBuB_mvE
