The Institute of Masters of Wine will showcase its study programme to prospective students in Sydney on 9 June 2011.

Members of the wine trade will have the opportunity to learn more about studying for the industry’s most highly regarded qualification at the event.

There are currently 290 Masters of Wine in the world, based in 23 different countries, including 18 in Australia and eight in New Zealand.

The open day will provide an in depth introduction to the Institute’s study programme, which prepares candidates for the annual Masters of Wine Examination. More than 250 students from 28 different countries are currently enrolled in the programme. Applications for the 2011/12 programme will open in July this year.

The open day will be introduced by Jane Skilton MW. It includes an introduction to the Institute and the study programme, a six wine blind tasting to illustrate the Master of Wine approach to tasting, a discussion of topical issues, debate and the opportunity to discuss professional development.

Registration costs AUS$225 and includes all materials for the day and a light lunch. See the Events section of the Institute’s www.mastersofwine.org website for further details and booking.

Lynne Sherriff MW, Chairman of the Institute, said: “This open day is the best opportunity to find out what is really involved in studying to be an MW and should be of interest to serious wine professionals. Each year, interest in the qualification grows and we expect to see attendees from the Australian wine community and further afield on the day.”
