Waimea Estates are delighted that once again one of their wines has hit the headlines.

Trevor Bolitho and Martin Carrington of Waimea Estates were attending the London International Wine Trade Fair when it was announced that Waimea Sauvignon Blanc 2010 had just won the Regional Trophy at the Decanter Wine Awards for Champion New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc Under £10.

Wines are scored and given a grading: no award, Commended, Bronze, Silver or Gold. Gold-medal wines are re-tasted by the regional chairs for confirmation. Next is the taste-off of the Gold medal-winning wines for each country. The best of each style are awarded a regional trophy. Regional Trophies are then pitted against each other to decide the International Trophy winners - the ultimate accolade. In total 12,252 wines were entered from 44 countries, cementing its position as the world’s largest wine competition. Only 2.8% of the entries won a Gold or Trophy, so with these awards under its belt, Waimea is feeling justifiably proud!

The great news also is that there are good stocks of this wine in most of Waimea’s export markets around the world. Majestic Wines carry this wine throughout all their stores in the UK. Waimea’s website is www.waimeaestates.co.nz

Waimea also won awards for its Gewurztraminer 2010, Pinot Gris 2009, Pinot Noir 2009, Spinyback Pinot Gris 2009, Spinyback Pinot Noir 2009, Spinyback Sauvignon Blanc 2010, Takutai Pinot Gris 2009 and Takutai Pinot Noir 2009. The awards tally for Waimea Estates now stands at 36 Gold Medals and 8 Trophies since 2009 alone. These have covered seven different wine styles, once again proving Waimea’s consistency across a broad range of styles and price points.
