French wine company Moet Hennessy has launched a project to make quality sparkling wine in Northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.

A 1,000 mu (about 67 hectares) vineyard will be established in the eastern foothills of Helan Mountain in Ningxia by the Moet Hennessy-Louis Vuitton (LVMH) Group and Ningxia Reclamation Group, said Chang Limin, deputy director of the regional land reclamation bureau and deputy general manager of the reclamation group Tuesday.

Another 1,700 mu of grapes will be planted by the reclamation group independently to meet the vineyard's needs, Chang said. The group now boasts 100,000 mu of land for wine production, the biggest amount in China, according to Chang.

Moet Hennessy wants to turn West China into a world-class grape production and processing center to meet the growing demand for sparkling wine in China and Asia generally, sai文章来源华夏酒报d Chris Kostov Navarre, president of LVMH Group.
