The Chinese wine market is growing rapidly and is projected to become the largest in the world in a few decades. Auction house Christie’s has therefore appointed its first ever head of wine for China in order to help the Chinese wine lovers understand the beverage as well as the pricing, especially for those who would like to make a profit out of it.

Simon Tam, the head of wine for China at Christie’s, says on this weekend’s TDM Talk Show that Chinese people are increasingly shifting from beer to wine in their dinning tables and are learning to appreciate the taste of fine wine.

He disclosed that wine in China consumed by Chinese people could be sold for 30 renminbi to up to 30,000 renminbi a bottle.

Nevertheless, Tam pointed out that Macau is a “very important” market for Christie’s, which already has “a lot of clients” who’re buying wines for casinos.

TDM Talk Show will air at 8pm tonight and again at midnight on Monday.
