Warning about putting QR Codes on your wine bottle labels

If you’re currently in the process of putting QR Codes on your Wine Labels, then I welcome you to prosperity! QR Codes are by far the most efficient tool out there to be able to ‘reach’ your consumers, and touch them directly, to initiate DTC.

But there are a couple of thing you should really look out for. For instance, I just read this blog, and if the code on that bottle is the final QR Code they go with, Hope Family Wines will get ZERO people to scan their codes.

The reason is that the code in the picture of that blog, is not possible to scan with any QR Code Scanners out there which I am aware of. The reason why it is not scannable, is because most QR Code Scanners cannot scan codes which are ‘warped’, which happens if there’s too much curving on the code.

According to our research on sizes of QR Codes on Wine Bottles, they need to be about .8 inches big. Anything smaller than that, and they’ll become difficult to pick up by the lens on your phone. Any larger, and the curvature of the bottle will ‘skew’ the code so that it becomes *impossible* to scan. Assuming the Wine Bottle is a normal standard round bottle …

The alternative is Bottle Hangers …
