Savvy investors profiting as China’s love affair with wine matures
June 14 -- Inflation accelerated in China in May as the consumer price index (CPI) rose 5.5 percent year-on-year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. The CPI had risen by 5.3 percent year-on-year in April.
Consumer prices increased 5.3 percent year-on-year in urban areas while the CPI in rural areas rose six percent.
Food prices rose 11.7 percent year-on-year in May. Compared with the previous month, food prices fell 0.3 percent.
The prices of tobacco and wine increased 2.6 percent year-on-year while apparel prices rose 1.8 percent year-on-year and 0.5 percent from April.
The prices of transportation and communication products were up by 0.7 percent year-on-year and 0.1 percent month-on-month.
The prices of healthcare and personal products increased 3.2 percent year-on-year and 0.4 percent from April.
The prices of home appliances and maintenance services were up by 2.5 percent year-on-year and 0.3 percent month-on-month.
For the first five months, the CPI rose 5.2 percent from the same period a year ago.
