Off-premise wine sales increase 3.1 percent through May
The over-$20 price segment continues to lead growth in wine sales
Off-premise wine sales data increased 3.1 percent from the same period of the previous year in the 4 weeks ending May 28, 2011, according to The Nielsen Company-tracked data. In the 13 weeks ending during the same period, wine sales increased 3.7 percent.

Domestic wine sales increased 4.8 percent while imported wine sales fell 1.1 percent in the 4 weeks ending May 28. In case volume during that same period, domestic wines increased 3.3 percent while imported case volume fell 1.4 percent.
In the 4 weeks ending May 28, wine sales had good growth in the over-$20, $15 to $19.99 and $9 to $11.99 price segments. In the over-$20 segment, wine sales grew 8.6 percent during that period; sales for the $15 to $19.99 segment grew 8.5 percent and the $9 to $11.99 segment increased 8.3 percent in sales. In the 13 weeks ending May 28, the over-$20 segment grew 12.5 percent and both the $15 to $19.99 and $9 to $11.99 segment grew 9.1 percent. Wine sales in the $0 to $2.99 and $6 to $8.99 price segments continued to fall.
