En primeur: Future is looking tense in 2010 campaign

By the time you read this, there is a faint possibility that the premier cru (first-growth) Bordeaux will have released their 2010 en primeur preliminary prices (for those prepared to buy in advance of bottling). But after the slowest and most dilatory campaign on record, the odds are very much against.

Ironically, it all began so promisingly with the April tastings confirming that Bordeaux had plucked yet another annus mirabilis from its chapeau in 2010. Writing on eRobertParker.com, the critic Neal Martin observed: “Whatever deity is up there bestowed Bordeaux with another embarrassing, once-in-a-lifetime vintage that followed the once-in-a-lifetime 2009.”
