Côtes de Provence Sainte Victoire Famille Negrel 2010 France; Taste the Difference Verdicchio Classico dei Castelli di Jesi 2010 Italy
Domaine des Roches-Neuves L’Insolite 2009 Saumur Blanc, France (13%, around £18.49, Les Caves de Pyrène in Artington, Surrey, 01483 554750)
From a domaine in the Loire that practices biodynamic viticulture, this white was one of the wines at the Natural Wine Fair that I did really like. It’s made from chenin blanc and combines a luscious, pear-juice quality with a tight mineral structure. Substantial and incredibly vital.
Côtes de Provence Sainte Victoire Famille Negrel 2010 France (12.5%, £8.99 down from £9.99 when you buy two, Majestic)
For all those who have emailed to ask what became of my promise to feature more 2010 rosés as and when they arrived, here’s a good one from the Sainte Victoire subregion of Côtes de Provence, at the foot of the mountain painted so often by Cézanne. It’s a delicate, pale blend of grenache, cinsault and syrah.
Taste the Difference Verdicchio Classico dei Castelli di Jesi 2010 Italy (13%, £5.99, Sainsbury’s)
This unoaked white from central Italy is one of Sainsbury’s better own-label bottlings. Made from 90 per cent verdicchio, 10 per cent trebbiano, it’s a clean-edged, relatively neutral wine with a creamy texture and a suggestion of herbs. Best with food, say a plateful of pasta filled with ricotta and spinach.
