French wine fetches one million yuan in Beijing
CAHORS (France) - A MAGNUM of wine from a French vineyard owned by Denmark's Prince Consort Henrik has been sold in Beijing for one million yuan (S$191,384), the vineyard said on Thursday.
Guillaume Bardin, director of the Chateau de Cayx vineyard in south-west France, said the magnum was sold in the Chinese capital on Wednesday 'during a charity auction to benefit an association that cares for the disabled'.
The buyer was identified as Liu Kejing, the event's organiser, who as director general of Dynasty Winery oversees one of China's biggest wine producers.
Normally 1.5 litres in capacity, a magnum is double the size of a standard bottle of wine.
Henrik, 77, a native of south-west France, is the husband of Danish monarch Queen Margrethe II.
