Table Grape Commission leads Buy California Grown campaign
The Fresno-based California Table Grape Commission has gone to the front lines to support the state Legislature’s recently passed resolution urging the state’s residents to Buy California Grown.
The “Eat Local, Buy California Grown Day” resolution calls on Californians to set aside at least one day per week to consume meals made exclusively from ingredients grown in the state, according to a news release.
Cindy Plummer, the commission’s vice president of domestic marketing, joined lawmakers at a June 24 news conference in Los Angeles to help publicize the resolution.
“California’s farmers produce the best quality food in the world,” Plummer said in the release. “The state’s fresh grape farmers have passed down this heritage for generations. When Californians buy local, they are enjoying a high quality product while benefiting our state’s communities, farmers, businesses and employees.”
Californians may pledge to support the resolution by visiting the effort’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/eatlocalbuycaliforniagrown.
The Table Grape Commission has been active in the 10-year-old Buy California Grown campaign since its inception.
Kathleen Nave, commission president, chaired the campaign’s board of directors in 2010. Plummer currently serves on the board.
