Foodies to sample taste of China
LUDHIANA: Master chef Raymond Sim Poh Geok was in city on Tuesday to teach authentic Chinese delicacies to city residents and participants of a cooking contest slated to be organised in NBD Neopolis Mall on Wednesday.
The participants grabbed a few cooking tips and learned to cook dishes like Hong Kong noodles, spinach & black mushroom, mix vegetables in ginger garlic chilli sauce, szechwan chicken and steamed fish in Hong Kong sauce.
After the two-day cooking lessons, every participant seemed confident enough to win the contest. Singapore based chef Sim will be the judge at the competition.
Harnoor Chahal, resident of Moga, said, ''There is no authentic Chinese food restaurant in Ludhiana, so this workshop cum contest is a great place to learn authentic Chinese food. Primarily, I learnt how to use different sauces in variation.''
Aditi Nagpal, resident of Chandigarh, said that learning the recipe of her favourite dish, mix vegetables in ginger garlic chilli sauce, was the best part of the workshop. ''Tips like correct timing in boiling assorted vegetables and the right way of chopping garlic and ginger were very useful.'' Adding, ''I am very glad to have participated in this contest because very rarely do you get a chance to learn cooking from a chef who has more than 25 years of experience in the industry.''
Rohini Sharma, resident of Lal Bagh, was very excited to learn the recipe of her family's favourite dish Szechwan chicken. ''Learning the use of Chinese wine for cooking was a great tip imparted by the chef. I will surely use all the tips to prepare my special dish for the competition.''
