Prince Albert of Monaco chooses Provencal wine for wedding

Monaco's Prince Albert II has chosen wine from a 15ha organic vineyard in Provence to celebrate his marriage to his South African fiancee Charlene Wittstock.

Guests at the wedding, which is taking place on July 1 and 2 in the principality of Monaco, will be served special-edition magnums of Domaine Saint Albert, decorated with a commemorative monogram of the occasion.

The 2007 vintage in red, a blend of Cinsault, Grenache Noir and Syrah, and the 2010 vintage in white, a blend of Clairette Vert, Vermentino and Ugni Blanc, and a rosé, will be served

Wine-maker and owner Olivier Foucou told Decanter.com that they had provided 50 magnums for the wedding weekend, which will be reserved for special guests and the Royal family.

‘We are a small-production vineyard, using traditional Provençal methods for our wine. This is not a commercial operation and no copies of the magnums will be put on sale afterwards – rather we are very proud that Prince Albert enjoys our wines, and has chosen them to celebrate the occasion.’

The Domaine’s wines are already sold in restaurants along the French Riviera, including La Mandarine at the Port Palace Hotel, Monaco, and Aphrodite in Nice.
