Washington state wine industry targets India
Winemakers from Washington state will visit India next month to host tastings and winemaker dinners in Mumbai and Delhi.
The representatives will visit India Sept. 5-9 to showcase the state’s wines. Participating wineries include Ste. Michelle Wine Estates Ste. Michelle Wine Estates
Washington State Wine Commission officials said they picked India for the marketing campaign because “India is projected to overtake China as the world’s most populous country sometime in the next 10 to 15 years, and the wine market in India continues to grow.”
The Puget Sound Business Journal this year published a comprehensive roster of Washington state wineries, listed by their licensed facilities.
Washington is the second-largest wine producer in the U.S., behind California. The Washington Wine Commission says the state’s industry has an economic impact of more than $3 billion each year and employs more than 19,000 people.
