French drink and wine group Pernod Ricard today reported a 6% rise in quarterly sales to nearly €2 billion driven by growth in emerging markets.
The maker of Jameson Whiskey and Absolut vodka saw sales jump by 20% in emerging markets in its first quarter that runs from July to September. Sales in India soared by 29%, 26% in Russia and 25% in China.
"The start of the 2011/12 financial year confirms the solidity of our markets," Pernod Ricard chief executive officer Pierre Pringuet said in a statement.
"Our outlook assumes a macro-economic scenario featuring strong dynamism in emerging markets and slow growth in mature markets,'' he added.
The company is aiming for 6% organic profit growth in its 2011/12 reporting year.
