SA wine farmers eye Chinese market

Western Cape wine farmers are looking to China as a possible new market for their products.

In September, around 20 farmers, with the help of provincial government, travelled to China's Shandong province to exhibit their products.

Agriculture spokesperson Wouter Kriel said the local wine industry has come under pressure.

“The wine industry is going through a difficult time. Our traditional export market, which is the United States, is having some economic problems at the moment. People are not buying as much wine as they use to and it’s very important for us to develop new markets,” he added.
