Fireworks, dancers to ring in New Year

PUNE: The city is all set to herald 2012 in style. Albeit few in numbers, New Year parties are nonetheless vying with the best in other cities - be it music, food, DJs and dancing.

For instance, a resort near Mumbai-Pune expressway will host Jashn 2012, a party that boasts of a 30,000 sq ft dance floor, fire dancers, Bollywood dance troops, unlimited food, live 'dhol' and DJs to whip up the frenzy. The cuisine in particular is spread across 40 different counters, from Chinese, Thai, Italian, Punjabi and more. For all of this, one will have to shell out Rs 2,800 per couple and Rs 1,400 for stag entry.

Moving on, a high-end hotel on University Road has aptly called one of its celebrations as the New Year's Eve Ball 2012 - the Egyptian Night. Meant only for couples, the event will take place at the pool side, 8 pm onwards. It boasts of fire dancers, foot tapping music, stipulated beverages, a grand buffet and prizes galore. Another one at the same venue is called Dhamal 2012, which is more suited for families, and will cost Rs 1,500 per person. This one is based on a Punjabi theme and comes packed with live music ('ghazals' and Indian pop), unlimited food and prizes.

A resort on Lavasa Road, Mukalwadi will host a foot-tapper called Frozen Night. It will have six popular DJs playing some electrifying numbers; the event being armed with a laser show, fire works, gift hampers and an exotic buffet.

Another party is being organised at a resort in Hinjewadi. Called the Wonders of the World, it flaunts a buffet dinner offering delicacies from across the globe, unlimited liquor, assorted juices, soft drinks, live duo and jazz bands as well as prizes. The same resort will host a casual New Year ball, with lip-smacking Indian cuisine, unlimited beer, wine and assorted juices, live DJ, karaoke and special prizes. Entry to both the parties will cost Rs 5,500 and Rs 4,500 per couple, respectively.

Beyond Gravity, a New Year bash to be held at a restaurant on Boat club Road is offering unlimited food and drinks with DJ music until midnight. Parikshith Agarwal, the coordinator for the event said that they expect about 250 to 300 people turning up for the event. "We are giving out couple passes and limited single passes. Starters, main course and dessert from Italian and Continental cuisine will be available," he said.
