Off-Premise Wine Sales Increase 1.1 Percent in December

$9 to $11.99 price segment leads growth

Off-premise wine sales data increased 1.1 percent from the same period of the previous year in the 4 weeks ending December 10, 2011, according to The Nielsen Company-tracked data. In the 13 weeks ending during the same period, wine sales increased 2.7 percent.

Domestic wine sales increased 2.7 percent while imported wine sales fell 2.7 percent in the 4 weeks ending December 10. In case volume during that same period, domestic wines increased 1 percent while imported case volume fell 3.4 percent.

In the 4 weeks ending December 10, most of the growth took place in the $9 to $11.99 price segment, growing 8.3 percent. In the 13 weeks ending the same period, wine sales grew 8.6 percent. In volume, the segment was up 10.2 percent in the 4 weeks and 9.7 percent in the 13 weeks ending December 10.

The $15 to $19.99 price segment also had good growth in wine sales, increasing 5.3 percent in the 4 weeks and 7.7 percent in the 13 weeks ending December 10.

Wine sales in the $0 to $2.99 and $6 to $8.99 price segments continue to fall. Sales in the $0 to $2.99 segment fell 5.5 percent in the 4 weeks ending December 10 while sales in the $6 to $8.99 segment fell 8 percent. Volume was down 5.3 percent for the $0 to $2.99 segment and down 7.1 percent for the $6 to $8.99 segment.
