Jayer collection sold in HK

Christie’s sale of ex-cellar Jayer wines was 100% sold last Friday in what its international head of wine, David Elswood, called a “remarkable and unique auction”.

Starting the house’s spring season in the Far East, the 102 lots were all sold for a total of HK$66,029,700 (US$8,511,288).

The top lot was a case of Cros Parantoux 1985, which sold for HK$2,057,000 (US$265,147). Its high estimate was HK$1 million.

Elswood continued: “Buyers were keenly aware of the unique provenance of these classic Burgundies and the attraction of a sale that can never be repeated, even at Christie’s.”

Charles Curtis MW, head of wine for Christie’s Asia, added: “Friday’s sale demonstrated the enduring passion of our Asian clients for the wines of Burgundy.

“With 17 lots over HK$1 million and an average lot value of HK$647,350, this once-in-a-lifetime sale gets a high bar indeed and confirms once again the dominance of Hong Kong in the market for fine and rare wine.”
