Orange Wine Week 2012: Showcasing the best of the Orange Region
The Orange Wine Week Committee is excited to announce the signature events for Orange Wine Week for 2012.
The events that have been planned showcase the whole region and incorporate wine education, tasting and food matching.
The aim is to present the region’s wines and offer visitors the opportunity to meet and engage with the growers and winemakers.
The Orange Wine Region is one of Australia’s most exciting and dynamic emerging regions. With the first modern vineyards planted in 1983, Orange is the only region in Australia that is defined by its elevation above sea level, with genuine cool climate vineyards spread from 600 metres to 1100 metres.
Wine Week will open with the Orange Wine Show Public Tasting. This event is a great opportunity to taste the region’s wines with the winemakers at the Orange Showground Pavilion. There will be over 200 wines to taste along with great food and industry hospitality.
A new event in the historic village of Millthorpe is the “Winemakers’ Table”. This brings another exciting outdoor component to the week’s activities with a long table dinner set in the village’s main street, featuring renowned chef Tony Worland of Tonic Restaurant and Stacey Ewan from the Old Mill Café.
The Orange Wine Week Night Market, with over 40 food and wine stalls, will again bring the whole community together in a market atmosphere in Robertson Park.
The cellar doors of the region have been working together to develop a new concept of “Trail Blazing”. On the mid week days (22-26 October) each of the region's trails have developed activities that incorporate, not only wine and food but an educational component and a scenic journey through the region.
The Orange Region Viticultural Committee is holding a two day “National Cool Climate Shiraz Symposium”. Guest speakers are experts from all facets of the industry, including Tim Kirk from Clonakilla and Michael Hill Smith from Shaw & Smith.
