Global Visibility of Destiny Bay Vineyards Lifted with Publication of “Grape-a-hol: How Big Business is Subverting Artisan Winemaking and the Future of Fine Wine”

Destiny Bay Vineyards announced today an unexpected rise in sales of its Bordeaux-style blends following publication of a provocative book on the wine industry: “Grape-a-hol: How Big Business is Subverting Artisan Winemaking and the Future of Fine Wine.”

“We did not know what to expect when the book was released,” said Mike Spratt, co-author and co-founder of Destiny Bay Vineyards. “We knew that criticizing certain practices of industrial wine producers and questioning the validity of some regulatory decisions on tax and trade could expose us to reprisals by industry apologists.”

“There is no doubt that we have agitated some factory producers and industry insiders but we won fans among artisan winemakers and serious collectors globally,” said Mark Feldman, co-author and CEO of Destiny Bay Wine Imports, explaining some of the reaction to the book. “Reviewers have characterized the book as everything from a wake-up call for the industry, to an extended rant, to an essential read, but they all seem to agree the book should be read by anyone interested in the wine industry.”

Brett Taylor, Destiny Bay’s Global Director of Sales and Distribution noted that “we saw an increase in inquiries and demand within weeks of the book’s release.” Though the three Destiny Bay wines consistently score in the 90’s and are compared favorably with world-class Cabernet blends, “the controversy generated by the book has increased our visibility.
