Summergate Fine Wines today announced a major expansion of its Italian wine portfolio for the greater China market, with the signing of several new strategic partnerships with leading Italian wineries. Summergate has been appointed the exclusive importer and distributor for greater China (mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau),&n文章来源中国酒业新闻网bsp;by the following world-class Italian producers:
Barone Ricasoli (Tuscany), Beni di Batasiolo (Piedmont), Luciano Sandrone (Piedmont), Emidio Pepe (Montepulciano), San Polo (Tuscany), Poggio al Tesoro (Tuscany)
These producers join an already formidable family of Italian partners with Summergate in greater China, including Livio Felluga (Friuli), Allegrini (Veneto), Corte Giara (Veneto) and Tasca d’Almerita (Sicily).
“We’re thrilled to be building the China market for such great winemakers from Italy,” commented Ian Ford, co-owner and Managing Partner of Summergate. “Our goal is to build a strong, healthy, and sustainable market across China for these producers, and beyond that, for Italian fine wine in China overall” said Ford.
Italy has been showing tremendous growth momentum in China. The country was ranked the fourth largest in terms of imported wine by volume in the first six months of 2012, with a total volume to China of over 12 million bottles. Total bottled wine from Italy to China has almost quadrupled since 2008, with approximately 6.8 million bottles imported in that year, up to a little more than 25 million bottles in 2011.
As tastes for fine wines in China expand beyond Bordeaux, there continues to be a great market potential for Italy in China.
“In three to five years these newly launched wineries will be established, prestigious brands in the market. Summergate will be leading a strong Italian wine charge, taking Italy to where it should be in the China wine market” said Ford. “All of Summergate’s growing organization is behind this exciting vision, and we’re eager to get going with all of our Italian wine partners, both current and new.”
About the wineries:
Barone Ricasoli - Tuscany
“Ricasoli literally wrote the book on how to make Chianti Classico" - James Suckling
Barone Ricasoli is a legendary winery in the heart of Chianti Classico, and represents a chapter in the history of the region. Since almost 1,000 years ago, when they purchased the Brolio Castle, the Ricasoli family has been Chianti specialists, being at the same time points of reference for both tradition and innovation. Worldwide distribution and positive reviews from international critics and consumers proves the timeless elegance and quality of the Ricasoli wines. Summergate is excited to be hosting the Barone Francesco Ricasoli across greater China in November of 2012.
