Bar Originale introduced Ravi, a bottle spout that chills wine as it pours, at Autumn Fair in Birmingham today. The company claims the cooler, which was invented by Canadian designer Michel Dallaine, chills wine 40 times faster than other methods.
The Ravi cooler comprises of a steel inner coil that is surrounded by freezable gel. As the wine passes through the coil it is cooled by the gel. Users can even adjust how cool they want the wine to be by adjusting the air flow through the Ravi and so the time the wine spends travelling through the coil.
Bar Originale managing director Paul Spencer said: “Some red wines should not be drunk at room temperature, they should be 15° Celsius, this is ideal for that. Equally, if you’ve got a bottle of white wine and you’ve forgotten to put it in the fridge and friends come over, you just pop this on top.”
Spirits such as whiskey and vodka, Spencer suggested, could be served using the Ravi, doing away with the need for ice. The Ravi can be cleaned with running water and has a recommended retail price of £29.99.
Bar Originale also launched its first glassware range at the show. Breathable Glass, by German brand Eisch Glaskultur, is blasted with oxygen during manufacture creating microscopic pores that speed the process of aeration. Spencer said that using the Breathable Glass wine can breathe as much in two minutes as it would in two hours if it were decanted. The Noble glass, which is made in two pieces has a recommended retail price of £15 and the Superior, which is made in one piece has a recommended retail price of £25.
