4. TAKE A TRIP TO ZHUHAI

Macau’s proximity to mainland China means that a simple day trip is an easy and affordable option (although a Chinese visa is required). One such place to visit is Zhuhai, for its bargain shopping, inexpensive massages, specialty local products and dining choices. The city has many commercial areas with huge shopping malls, department stores and supermarkets.

Various artwork and handicrafts are among the shopping highlights in Zhuhai. Straw mats, hats and fabrics made from the float grass in nearby Baiteng Lake as well as pearls are among the many local products worth checking out. The coast of Zhuhai is at a salt and fresh water crossover point, and for this reason it is renowned for its large number of aquatic products including fish, eel, oyster sauce, crabs and prawns. The Sea Product Market, located opposite Wanzai Port, is a good place to buy such items.

Farmers’ markets are another enjoyable experience for visitors. In addition to local fruits such as the Xiaotuoshan orange from Huangyang Mountain, the markets are also known for their beautiful fresh flowers. This is especially true of the markets in Wanzai Town, where flowers have been cultivated for more than 100 years and there nearly 300 varieties.

5. CATCH SOME CHEEKY WAVES

Hit the beach and ride the surf in the new man-made wave pool at the Galaxy Macau resort, located in Cotai. The property’s rooftop Grand Resort Deck offers guests some serious relaxation with its collection of swimming pools, soaring palms and lush tropical gardens. Guests can swim in the world’s largest sky-top wave pool, surf on 1.5 metre high waves, chill out on the pristine white sands of the 2000 square metre beach or work out in the gym. There’s also a kids pool, slide, pool climbing wall and jacuzzi. And for the ultimate in relaxation, there are private beachside cabanas where guests can truly unwind.
