Legendary Collection of Ancient Bordeaux and Burgundy
A legendary collection of ancient Bordeaux and Burgundy comprises 240 lots in various formats and from many of the best vintages.  Estimated at over HK$7 million (US$1 million), all these wines have been purchased at auctions of Acker Merrall & Condit over the years and have been kept in the professional storage facility of the auction house. The oldest wine on offer, a bottle of Santenay 1911 (estimate: HK$3,200-4,800/ US$400-600), is a true rarity to appear at auction.
The Bordeaux section showcases the dream vintages of First Growths Haut Brion, Latour, Mouton Rothschild, Lafite Rothschild as well as Pétrus, Cheval Blanc, Ausone and Lafleur. A wide array of the most sought-after vintages of Château Pétrus are represented, including a bottle of 1949 vintage (estimate: HK$16,000-24,000/ US$2,000-3,000) and a magnum of Pétrus 1961 (estimate: HK$72,000-96,000/ US$9,000-12,000). A full case of Château Haut Brion 1955 (estimate: HK$80,000-120,000/ US$10,000-15,000) is a further highlight (illustrated right).
The collection also features an impressive selection of top quality Burgundy, including DRC Romanée-Conti, La Tache, Échezeaux, Chambertin, and Musigny.  Highlights include a Jeroboam of the classic vintage 1966 of DRC Romanée-Conti in outstanding colour and condition (estimate: HK$144,000-200,000/ US$18,000-24,000) and six bottles of Rousseau Chambertin 1934 (estimate: HK$144,000-200,000/ US$18,000-24,000), previously from the private cellar of Doris Duke, one of the most legendary figures of 20th century America.

Château Cos D’Estournel

Of particular interest in the sale are four unique lots consigned directly by Château Cos d’Estournel of vintages 1982 to 2005 in their original wooden cases (estimates ranging from HK$28,000 to 280,000/ US$3,500 to 35,000).  It is the first time ever that wines from Château Cos d’Estournel have been offered in an auction anywhere in the world.   Many of the bottles are very rare with some of the sizes of only a handful made, including three Melchiors (18 liters), three Nebuchadnezzars (15 liters), and three Balthazars (12 liters).

Other jewels in the sale include a rare Nebuchadnezzar (15 liters) of the coveted Château Cheval Blanc 2000 (estimate: HK$200,000-280,000/ US$26,000-35,000) and a Methuselah of DRC Romanée-Conti 1999 (estimate: HK$400,000-600,000/ US$50,000-75,000).

Acker Merrall & Condit will hold a series of wine events prior to the sale to give clients a unique experience of wine tasting and sharing.  For enquiries and registration for the auction, please contact Acker Merrall & Condit on +852 6688-9621 (Hong Kong), + 1 212 787-3655 (USA), or email: ackerbids@aol.com.
