Not a waste of time
A Brooklyn Heights-based recycling company has awarded to Melt Bar and Grilled gold status for its composting efforts.
The grilled cheese operation has diverted 35 tons of food and other organic waste from landfills in the past 12 months, according to Rosby Cos.
“Melt Bar & Grilled has been an early adopter of the Rosby Resource Recycling services and has continually increased their composting efforts,” said owner Ian Rosby.
Rosby Cos.' composting services help businesses reduce the amount of waste that goes into dumpsters and landfills. Landscapes and gardeners are able to repurpose the material as soil.
The dirt on urban farming

The center's goal is to empower residents to consume fresh, healthy produce as well as sell product to local businesses, restaurants and markets. The Rid-All Green Partnership though a pilot program will supply produce to St. Vincent Charity Medical Center.
Mr. Allen's Wisconsin-based Growing Power is a national nonprofit and land trust that supports urban farming.

Cleveland's Growing Power Regional Training Center will be one of a few in the country, and will serve the greater Ohio, Indiana and Pennsylvania regions.
“If people can grow safe, healthy, affordable food, if they have access to land and clean water, this is transformative on every level in a community,” Mr. Allen said. “I believe we cannot have healthy communities without a healthy food system.”
Volunteer opportunities with Rid-All Green Partnership are available now, and a schedule of training and education classes will be posted in late August.
Training courses beginning in August and September will focus on urban agriculture basics that will cover topics such as composting, soil preparation, hoop house construction and management and planting.
