"Italian Tuscany Wine Tasting Week" kicked off in Shanghai. It is the first Tuscany Wine Tasting for past 20 years.
The event was organized by the Italian Tuscany region-governmental organizations. The activity was first held in 1989, since then biennially. 317 wine samples were collected on the first session, it rose to 1064 on the2006 session. The tasting event has become the largest Tasting of Toscana, but also the second biggest wine contest following the Vinitaly.
This year, the event first came to China, bringing a variety of more than 50 wines from 20 wineries to Chinese consumers and dealers to showcase a wide range of Tuscany styled wines.
According to Wu Jianhua, Secretary-General of Shanghai Alcohol Industry Association, in the first half of this year, Shanghai wine market is not affected by the financial crisis, in particular the market share of imported wines, increased 36% over the same period last year. At present, the imported wine market share in Shanghai is gradually increasing, now accounting for nearly 30%, and sales grew faster than the growth rate of domestic wine. In addition, increased consumer demand has also expanded the wine consumption. With an increasing of imported wines, a fall in price and rising amount is expecting to be more and more evident.
